Summer is right around the corner, and that means you’ll be running your air conditioner nonstop. And just like any other appliance, things can go wrong with your AC unit, leaving you and your family hot and bothered in the height of the summer heat.
With your comfort in mind, we’ve put together this list of common issues we see with HVAC systems in Southern California.
The AC Won’t Turn On In The House
If you go to turn the air conditioning on and your unit doesn’t switch on, panic may set in. Before you have a full-blown panic attack, there are a few things you can try. First, check to see if there may be a problem with the circuit breaker.
Next, check if the thermostat is functioning properly. If the thermostat screen is blank, check to see if it takes batteries and they need to be replaced. If it isn’t a simple fix you can handle on your own, schedule an appointment with one of our technicians for repair services.
The AC Unit Is Blowing Hot Air
The only thing worse than your unit not working at all is it blowing hot air. Most likely, this isn’t an issue you can handle on your own.
This is typically caused by an issue with the refrigerant or your unit not being properly maintained. Or, it could be that the coils have cracks or leaks, draining the system of the refrigerant needed to keep things cool.
It’s Working, But There’s No Airflow
If you can hear your unit working, but don’t feel the air flowing properly through your home, there are a few things you can do.
First, check your filters. If they’re clogged, that could be the cause of the airflow issue.
If your filter isn’t the culprit, check if any grilles or vents are closed in rooms you may not spend a lot of time inside. You may think that closing the vents in those rooms will help, but it actually makes airflow worse in other rooms.
If neither of those solutions helps fix the problem, take a look at your ductwork to see if it’s damaged or disconnected.
No matter the solution, this problem can be avoided with regular routine maintenance. Schedule yours today.
Something Else Is Wrong
Besides the most common issues, there are several others that we come across every year.
Whether your system is cycling on and off, you’re hearing loud noises, or water is leaking from the furnace, we recommend turning off the unit in an attempt to prevent further damage.
